ALTERNATIVE JEWELLERY DESIGNES BY ARTIST BELINDA PHOFU
Wo is Belinda Phofu and what do you do?
I’m a 22year old creative entrepreneur/jewellery designer who turns everyday mundane items into creative jewellery pieces.I have a jewellery brand called SIIC,which stands for Style Is Incalculable(SIIC).I also curate a series of exhibitions called Art Is Currency, which is aimed at promoting the collaboration between creatives. As well as giving creatives an opportunity to showcase their work.
How would you define your style or art?
I would describe my style/art as being very abstract.I believe that style is within itself art and that it knows no boundaries, hence the name of my jewellery brand being Style Is Incalculable. Its all about self and the way that self chooses to express itself.
What inspires your work?
My jewellery pieces are inspired by my life experiences, all my pieces form parts of my story/my life’s journey.
What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on planning the 2nd edition my Art Is Currency exhibition.,which will be taking place later on during the course of the year.As well as a few other collaborations.
What advice would you give young creatives looking to do what you do?
The advice that i’d give young to creatives looking to do what i do would be that they should never take failure or their loved ones not supporting what they do as a sign to give up on their dream.Because if you want your dream bad enough, you should never allow anything to stop you.
What has been the highlight of your career thus far?
The highlight of my career so far would definitely be curating my very first Art Is Currency exhibition.Mainly because it gave other artists an opportunity to showcase their work and it brought jewellery and art together.I had collaborated with 10 jewellery artists and they had to create illustrations which formed their own
interpretation of 10 of my jewellery pieces.
