Oprah Winfrey's Art Collection

Leslie Hindman Auctioneers have announced that they have secured the sale of Oprah Winfrey's decorative art and furniture collection from the media star's Chicago home.

The sale includes over 500 lots of English, French, and continental furniture, decorative arts, paintings, prints, drawings, porcelain, crystal, silver, memorabilia, clothing, and accessories.

Oprah has a number of fellow celebrity art collectors, including Madonna (see Take A Look Inside Madonna's $100 Million Blue-Chip Art Collection), Leonardo DiCaprio (see Take a Look Inside Leonardo DiCaprio's Growing Art Collection), and William Louis-Dreyfuss (see See the Artworks Billionaire William Louis-Dreyfus Is Gifting to Harlem Kids). The collection of the late Lauren Bacall is also hitting the block this spring (see Lauren Bacall's Art Collection To Hit Auction in Widely Anticipated Second Sale).

Among the most highly anticipated items is a oil painting by Hovsep Pushman titled The Little Mother, which depicts a young black girl wearing a flowered head scarf and cradling a white baby doll, and carries a pre-sale estimate of $35,000–45,000.

Richard Edward Miller's The Red Scarf, a luminous painting of a naked woman standing at her window, is expected to be the evening's biggest sale at $80,000–120,000.

Proceeds from the sale will go towards the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation for Girls, which supports young women in South Africa throughout their education.

The foundation has enabled scores of young women to pursue higher education in their native country and at prestigious American institutions such as Stanford University, Atlanta's Spelman College, Massachusetts's Smith College, and Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, among others.

Leslie Hindman, founder of Leslie Hindman Auctioneers said in a statement, “Oprah's acumen as a media icon and businesswoman has been an inspiration for millions. Perhaps even more inspiring is her dedication to altruistic endeavors, built on the foundation of sharing her success to better the lives of others."
